Passengers with Disabilities:
Exceptional Customer Service Through Greater Sensitivity
-One Day Course-
The theme of this course is creating exceptional customer service through greater sensitivity to passengers with disabilities, thereby providing full accessibility to transit service. All material is presented from the perspective of the awareness of and sensitivity to a diversity of types of disabilities to include physical, developmental, cognitive, intellectual, and hidden disabilities.Objectives:
- Understand the ADA in terms of nondiscrimination provisions for people with disabilities
- Know different types of passenger disabilities, and how these disabilities can affect the individual’s ability to functionally use fixed route and paratransit
- Learn how different types of disabilities require different levels of assistance and methods for effective communication
- Understand how people with disabilities travel and navigate the transit system
- Realize the importance of effective well documented policies for passengers with disabilities to ensure that barriers to accessible transportation are removed
