ADA Requirements for Complementary Paratransit Service
-One Day Course-
This course provides participants with an understanding of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and how the federal civil rights law provides regulatory criteria for the management and operations of ADA Paratransit services.Objectives:
- Understand the purpose of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) as a major civil rights law
- Review Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations implementing the ADA as they apply to both public and private transportation
- Know ADA requirements for lift and securement use
- Understand ADA requirements for origin to destination service
- Review DOT final rule changes to 49 CFR Part 37 regarding wheelchairs and reasonable modifications to policies, practices, procedures for greater accessibility
- Determine if an entity must provide complementary paratransit service
- Review eligibility requirements for ADA paratransit service
- Review DOT regulatory requirements for ADA paratransit service criteria
- Know ADA requirements and best practices for paratransit reservations and scheduling
- Understand the importance of ADA paratransit on time performance
- Review ADA regulatory due process requirements for suspension of service
